Overview
Mikumi National Park is often referred to as a “mini Serengeti” because of its open savannahs and abundant wildlife.
Located near Morogoro, it is one of the most accessible parks in southern Tanzania and an excellent option for short safaris or as a stopover to Ruaha or Nyerere. Its proximity to Dar es Salaam makes it a favorite for both local and international visitors.

The park is home to elephants, buffalos, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, and predators such as lions and leopards.
The Mkata Floodplain is particularly famous for offering great wildlife sightings and picturesque landscapes. Mikumi is also rich in birdlife, making it ideal for birdwatchers.

How to Get There
Mikumi is approximately a 4–5 hour drive from Dar es Salaam along a well-paved road. It can also be reached by scheduled flights to Mikumi airstrip. Its accessibility makes it a convenient safari destination for travelers with limited time.
Weather & Climate
The park has a warm tropical climate, with temperatures ranging between 20°C and 30°C. The dry season (June to October) offers the best wildlife sightings, while the wet season (November to May) transforms the landscape into a lush green paradise.
